No matter how much some may want to deny it, social media and the online presence touch everyone’s lives. In every facet of life, be that personal or in business, the world seems to very much revolve around the internet. This has paved the way for the emergence of digital marketing in recent decades, as a new and successful way to reach customers online and help your business profit.
The question many now ask is, can digital marketing sustain this skyrocketing success, or will the day ever come that we witness the decline of online strategies? In this blog post, we cover everything you need to know about digital marketing, and why some may think digital marketing is dying, plus our firm belief that it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
What is digital marketing?
Digital marketing, also commonly known as online marketing, is the use of internet promotion for brands and businesses to help retain, and gain new, customers. This, for example, could be email campaigns, paid advertisements or social media strategies. The main aim of digital marketing is to reach a target audience of customers to sell products, services or provide information.
What impact has digital marketing had?
The rise of digital marketing has completely revolutionised the marketing industry as a whole. Mainly, it has changed forever the way that businesses and brands communicate and reach out to customers. Interaction is now easier than ever because customers are easier to reach than ever. Nearly everyone has a smartphone in the modern world and is, therefore, able to receive emails, and alerts and witness paid advertisements on their social media accounts. Boosting profits and exposure of a brand is now, quite literally, only the click of a button away.
Is digital marketing dying?
Though the social media boom is still riding a wave of popularity, there has been some undeniable pushback to the online world in recent years. Many people consider social media to be a toxic and negative space at times, cottoning onto many of the digital marketing tactics where some spaces feel like they exist simply to sell you something. Some even go so far as to delete their social media accounts and online presence. If this continues en masse, does that mean the end of digital marketing as some believe? We would argue no, and our reasons can be found in the points below:
The world will continue to revolve online
We exist in a digital world, and this will only keep driving forward. The future lies within technology and there will never be a case of “going back” to our old ways of communication or socialising. The online space will only evolve and grow as time goes on, meaning there will always be a place for digital marketing. Some people may choose to reject the online world, but there will always be a big enough audience for digital marketing to thrive, without needing to resort to the marketing strategies of days gone by.
It’s convenient and accessible
One of the main reasons digital marketing is so popular and successful is that it is convenient and accessible to the masses. In a fast-paced world, people want things instantly and at the touch of their fingertips. Digital marketing provides the opportunity for them to hear about promotional offers and discounts instantaneously. Digital marketing meets customer demand, and while that demand remains and grows, online marketing will never die.
Digital marketing will evolve rather than die
As with all marketing strategies, digital marketing will likely evolve with the changing times rather than perish completely. For example, take the more conventional forms of marketing, such as television and radio, they have never died completely just amended their strategies to match with the modern consumer. Digital marketing will do the same in due course, evolving with the online platforms rather than dwindle away.
The digital presence throughout the world has gone too far to ever die away, and therefore neither will digital marketing. It will, however, evolve, as all conventional forms of marketing have, to develop and meet customers’ wants and needs.
